Medisorb R is a sterile, degradable, resorbable dressing made of chitin copolyester and is available in two versions: a dressing in the form of a membrane, intended for application to wounds that are difficult to heal, and a dressing in the form of a powder, intended for deep wounds.

Mechanism of action

The dressing removes exudate from the wound environment, while the resorption mechanism protects the newly formed tissue from damage.

Indications

These dressings are suitable for treating exudative, chronic, hard-to-heal, infected or non-infected wounds from various causes (e.g. venous wounds, diabetic foot, pressure sores, post-traumatic wounds, surgical wounds and burns).

Directions for use

Use strictly as directed in the package insert and under the supervision of a physician or nurse, who will ensure that the dressing is applied aseptically. Read the directions for use before applying the dressing. A secondary dressing can be additionally applied to the Medisorb R dressing. As soon as resorption is observed (the dressing is no longer intact), apply a new dressing without removing the previous one. Repeat the procedure until the wound is fully healed. Apply the dressing to the wound immediately after opening the package. If the wound’s condition deteriorates (e.g. there is redness, increased exudate, oedema or pain), discontinue use of the product and contact the attending physician. If there are no signs of resorption (after more than 1 month), consult the attending physician in order to remove the dressing.

Additional remarks

Do not use past the expiry date. The product is intended for single use only. Reuse of the product is unacceptable due to the loss of sterility of the product. In case of re-use, transmission of pathogenic agents may occur.

Contraindications

There are no data available concerning the sensitising effects of the dressing; however, particular attention is required if the patient has been diagnosed with an allergy to chitin or its derivatives. If hypersensitivity to any of the ingredients occurs, discontinue use of the dressing and consult a physician. The product is not recommended for dry wounds with necrotic tissue/eschar.
