Wound care system

Medisorb dressings follow a system for treating hard-to-heal wounds. All of the dressings are marked with a colour-coded wound classification.

Medisorb dressings follow a system for treating hard-to-heal wounds. A colour-coded wound classification matrix is featured on each package of Medisorb dressings to help you quickly identify a suitable dressing for a specific type of wound.

This system is based on the individual phases of the healing process.

Black represents wounds with dry necrotic eschar. Black wounds require debridement, for instance, by rehydrating the necrotic tissue. Medisorb G is a hydrogel dressing which facilitates autolysis. Yellow represents wounds with a lot of liquefactive necrotic tissue. Yellow wounds require the excess exudate and residual necrotic material to be absorbed. In the Medisorb system, dressings suitable for treating this type of wound include Medisorb A, Medisorb P PLUS and Medisorb P PLUS ADHESIVE absorbent dressings, as well as Medisorb R POWDER and Medisorb R MEMBRANE resorbable dressings. The appropriate type of dressing should be selected based on the volume of exudate, the depth of the wound and the function it is supposed to perform in the wound.

Medisorb A is a highly absorbent alginate dressing suitable for both superficial and deep wounds.

Medisorb P PLUS and Medisorb P PLUS ADHESIVE polyurethane foam dressings have a high absorbency grade that is suitable for superficial wounds.

Medisorb R resorbable dressings help drain the exudate from the wound, while the resorption mechanism protects the newly formed tissue from injury.

Red represents wounds in the granulation phase. Red wounds require a moist environment and monitoring of their exudate. In the Medisorb system, dressings suitable for treating this type of wound include Medisorb A, Medisorb P PLUS, Medisorb P PLUS ADHESIVE and Medisorb H absorbent dressings, as well as Medisorb R POWDER and Medisorb R MEMBRANE resorbable dressings. The appropriate type of dressing should be selected based on the volume of exudate, the depth of the wound and the function it is supposed to perform in the wound. link to the diagram below Medisorb A is a highly absorbent alginate dressing suitable for both superficial and deep wounds.

Medisorb P PLUS and Medisorb P PLUS ADHESIVE polyurethane foam dressings have a high absorbency grade that is suitable for superficial wounds. Medisorb H is a hydrocolloid dressing with a medium absorbency grade that is suitable for superficial wounds. Medisorb R resorbable dressings help drain the exudate from the wound, while the resorption mechanism protects the newly formed tissue from injury.

Pink represents wounds in the epithelialisation phase. Pink wounds require a moist environment and protection of the delicate tissue. In the Medisorb system, dressings suitable for treating this type of wound include Medisorb H hydrocolloid dressings and Medisorb F dressings, which are made of polyurethane film and shield delicate tissues from external factors.

Dressings which contain an antibacterial substance, such as silver, are suitable for treating infected wounds. The Medisorb product range includes several dressings which contain silver: Medisorb SILVER PAD, the self-adhesive version – Medisorb SILVER – and Medisorb P SILVER, which are absorbent dressings, as well as Medisorb R AG resorbable dressing. Silver has proven bactericidal and bacteriostatic properties.
